”Perfect Beginner’s Ukulele”The Lanikai LU21BE Baritone AE Ukulele is definitely a keeper, especially for those who are just learning to play the uke. This Baritone sized ukulele is not only the perfect size for playing, it also has a well-rounded tone and a smooth, clean look that you will love.
The largest of the ukulele bodies, a baritone uke has a deeper, fuller, richer sound than its tenor, soprano and concert sized brothers. This particular baritone uke is made of Nato wood. While guitar reviews will agree that a solid top gives any stringed instrument a better tone, this little number holds its own fairly well even if it is not a solid top.
Designed with a bigger body, the baritone uke is much easier for those with larger hands to play, but is still small enough for younger and more slightly built players to handle easily.
Solid quality construction is a must when it comes to a good sounding ukulele, and while Lanikai makes some lovely instruments, this one is geared for the beginning player. Not only is it easy to play, it also only costs ~$149, which makes it decidedly affordable.
Of course you can improve the sound of the LU21BE by replacing the strings that it comes with (Martin strings will work very well with this piece). And even though this is definitely a beginner’s ukulele, you’ll want to protect your investment with a
Lanikai Baritone Ukulele Gig Bag for an additional ~$19. However, you might as well opt for the
Gear One Ukulele Accessory Starter Pack (Baritone) which comes with a number of nifty items for the beginning player. Not only do you get a baritone sized gig bag, you also get a tuner, a chord book, but a set of extra Adagio strings as well! Add this to the Lanikai LU21BE Baritone AE Ukulele and you have the perfect start up for a beginning player!
