Gibson Acoustic Guitars: Custom Firebird

“A Real Hot Number”

The Gibson Firebird Custom Acoustic Guitar is truly a unique piece of work. Created to commemorate the forest fires that devastated large sections of Montana in 2000, this model is made by hand in the Montana Custom Shop whose location was nearly destroyed by the raging fires.

It is only appropriate that the Gibson Firebird has a “flame” theme in all of its decorative touches. From the pickguard with engraved flames raging around the sound hole to the abalone flame inlays on the fretboard and the mother of pearl flame inlays on the headstock, the fire theme holds sway but cannot detract from the Firebird’s quality craftsmanship or its warm, almost honeyed tone.

Made with a solid Sitka spruce top and quilted Maple back and sides, the richness of the Firebird’s tone can’t be argued with. It seems to have been created for pick style playing even aggressive strumming doesn’t seem to phase its clarity. It can be a bit hard to break in however, and for the new owner, a change of guitar strings to something lighter can bring out the Firebird’s true tone without discouraging you as to its playability. Over time, however, this beauty adapts itself to the player’s style and becomes richer of tone and easier to play the more it is used.

The Gibson Firebird definitely lives up to Gibson’s reputation for producing some of the best acoustic guitars available, and at ~$4,200 will provide you with years’ worth of music that will warm your heart.
